In Massachuetts, there's a governor election coming up. On the ballot there will be a few things including this (known as 'Question 1'):
Should supermarkets be able to sell alcohol?
Argument FOR Question 1: -Gives consumers the choice of where they can purchase their alcohol -Consumers can easily purchase alcohol at the same time as doing their weekly food shopping.
Argument AGAINST Question 1: -Allowing supermarkets to sell alcohol takes way from the business of small businesses, which are in many cases the sole means of providing for many families -Encourages drinking--more people will drink when the alcohol is right there when they go food shopping, and less would drink if they had to go to another store. -Studies prove that car accidents as result of drunk driving is around 2 times higher in states where alcohol is sold in supermarkets.
What would you choose? I only care because my dad works at a liquor store, and if Question 1 was answered favorably, his store would lose lots of business. I guess that makes me a little biased. But I still oppose Question 1.

I think supermarkets SHOULD NOT be allowed to sell alcohol. I don't enjoy having to deal with people going about in drunken stupors, and with more alcohol available, there would be an increase in that for sure.

I would also vote against Question 1. Why do we need to sell alcohol in supermarkets where kids are running around?
Also, at least where I live, alcohol is more expensive (normally) in supermarkets than in liquor stores.
