The Bush Administration wants to send more troops to Iraq. What do you think about it?
I think he's crazy and insane!! Congress should deny him the funds to do it. It would only mean more men at war getting killed!!

I think that there is two things we need to do if we are going to win in Iraq.
First is to halt trying to 'democratize' that country untill the time is right. We are wasting money and resourses trying to make Iraq a democracy, when the Kurds, Sunni Muslims, Shi'ite Muslims, and the others hate eachother. They can't even work together effectively, and local sectarian militais provide most of the defense for cities. However many factions in Iraq are anti-American.
Which brings me two number two. I think we should probably change our strategy. Iraq is begining to look like Afghanistan did to the Soviets. And since most of our troops are tied up in Iraq, the Taliban are starting to make a resurgence in Afghanistan. So I think that we should have less troops there; focus on training Iraqi Security Forces, attaining cooperation from moderate Middle East nations such as Egypt, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates in rebuilding Iraq, and special forces commando raids against different factions in Iraq. We should then put more pressure on Iran and Syria to stop funding the Shi'ite and Ba'athist. This would also free up more troops to help NATO in Afghanistan and defend Taiwan if China attempted an invasion. Right now I think we would be screwed in both places.

I think I got a much better idea.
Send Bush over there alone, and see just how well he would do. Not very well, I can assure you that!!

I'm a bit biased since I have always and will always hate Bush, but I think that sending more troops is a total bad idea. It will bomb -- literally. Pretty soon there won't be any living soldiers left, the way things are going. Manchukuo's first point is very valid. The time is not right to try to change Iraq. Iraq isn't willing, and you can't really change a country that isn't ready to be changed. Iraq is a lost cause, as far as I'm concerned. No one even knows what we're fighting for now. I truly think that it's noe a matter of religion and not the fact that Bush is under the pretense that there're weapons of mass destruction there. I mean, Hussein is dead, what more does Bush want??

Bush wants a stable Iraq. Iraq is a battle ground between al Qaeda, the US and Iran. With Saddam toppled, we want to stablize Iraq, and make it a peaceful prosperous democracy, i guess. Al Qaeda wants Iraq so that they can have a solid base of operations. That is something we took away from them in Afghanistan.
Iran, however, can be compared to the Soviets after WWII. Once Nazi Germany had been topled, the USSR wanted to exert its power in Europe. They also wanted to ruin US capitalism, so that Communism could spread worldwide. Now that Iraq is gone as a regional power, Iran wants to exert its power in the region. The want to destroy the US military so that they can spread Shia revolution throught the middle east.

I'm biased as I have/had (he came home but he's deploying again but I don't when) a beloved cousin over there that was injured. He received a purple heart and he can't wait to go back. Many of the soldiers I've talked to, and I know many, know why we're there and they agree that we should be over there. We don't understand what it's like being in a war zone, if we've never served, but they do and they say while they don't like being over there they need to be.
